Make your own soothing sounds using your radio or hi-fi
My wife and I had a hard time soothing my youngest daughter when she was 1-2 months old. Fortunately, I had heard the rumor that white noise should calm screaming babies. I took a quick search on the internet to find resources. I found some CDs and ordered these, but it was 1-2 weeks delivery time while I needed the white noise NOW. Searching through forums and articles did not give many tips. I read about a mother who had burned her vacuum cleaner while making white noise but I was not desperate enough to set our house on fire. I was thinking hard how to make white noise (I did not even know if it was working) and decided to use the radio. I tuned the radio to a frequency on the MW-band where I heard fragments of two channels together with a lot of noise. After 2 minutes, my screaming daughter was sleeping…WOW. When I got the compact disk that I ordered, I found one of them to be very useful but quite primitive. I thought that it must be possible to make these white noises at home. The soothing sounds on this website are the result of my experiment and I found some of them to be very calming for my child. I also have gotten feedback from visitors that have found these free soothing sounds helpful. Try the free alternatives before you use a lot of money on CD and white noise machines. You might turn on your vacuum cleaner for your child if you are desperate, but you I am warning you: it might start burning.
